Curb Appeal- How to Make a Great First Impression

When you drive up to a home, what is the first thing that you notice?  Your home and yard make an impression on anyone who views them.  Here are some tips to make sure that that first impression is a good one.

1.  Your Front Door

Bright Door Appeal

Whether you like bold and bright or neutral and classic, your door should not be neglected.  Because the door is the entrance to your home, a person's eye is automatically drawn there.  Also, it is there to welcome you home.  If your door leaves a lot to be desired, you might want to consider replacing it or freshening it up with a great paint color.

2. Lighting:

Lighting Counts

Lights around a home are often neglected yet they are one of the best and most cost effective ways to add warmth to your home. The lighting is especially important near the doors.

3. House Number:

 House Address

It can be really frustrating to find a home if the house number is not clearly visible.  Also, this is an easy, cost effective way to up your curb appeal.  It is like a great necklace, watch, or earrings.  Some people do not see it as necessary, but it adds the special finishing touch to a great outfit (or home in this case).

4. Dress Up Your Mailbox:

 Mailbox

Most people pay little or not attention to their mailboxes, yet they are one of the first things that visitors notice.  If your mailbox is in sad shape, it can give the impression that other parts of the home may be too.  This can be fixed fairly easily.  You can buy a new mailbox, or spruce up your current one like they did with the one pictured above on Ucreate.com.

5. Landscaping and Hanging Plants

You do not have to be a master gardener to make your yard look appealing.  Simple plants and landscapes can be very appealing.  Hanging plants can also add tremendously to the draw of your home.  If you have a very small budget (or no budget at all) for your landscape, make sure that the lawn is mowed and your planting spaces are weed-free.
