Winter is Coming - Door Weather Stripping!
Did you know that if you ignore checking around your doors and windows for leaks this fall, you could lose heat through a hole the equivalent size of two-square feet?
Let’s talk about doors, since they leak about twice at much as windows.
Rolled Vinyl: A moderately priced material that is easy to install. Cutting with scissors and tacking with small nails is the procedure for this installation. Rolled vinyl compresses the seal when the door is closed.
Spring Metal Strips: Spring metal weather stripping has great durability and is moderately priced. A little harder to install since your are using metal, so cutting has to be more precise. Also work carefully around the door latches and take your time.
Foam Tape: The durability of foam tape is not very long lasting. Basically cutting to size and placing the self-adhering tape to the door stops. Please take the time to make sure the door stops are clean or are cleaned for the foam tape to adhere properly. Foam tape seals when door is closed.
Door Sweep: The flat door sweep, usually made from rubber, is attached to the bottom of the door. Position this correctly so the sweep seals against the door threshold.
Shoe: The shoe is attached to the bottom of the door and compresses against the threshold. To install, removal of the door is required, also may need to be planed to adjust the height of the door for attachment of the shoe. This will compress against the door’s threshold when closed.
